Description |
English: Erechtheum is a painting of James "Athenian" Stuart at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Depicted, workmen excavating to reveal the base of the prostasis underneath the Caryatids, while two other Ottomans are supervising the excavations in order to ensure that any archaeological findings are not carried away. Ottoman official Dizdar Aǧa, also supervising the excavation, is leaning on his son-in-law's shoulder. On the foreground (right) a man, probably James Stuart, drawing the monument.
