Summary
DescriptionLloyd Loar in 1911.png |
English: Photo of Lloyd Loar holding a Gibson F2 mandolin, from the 1911 brochure for the Fisher Shipp Concert Company. This photo was reused by the company over the years and may date earlier than the 1911 brochure. The brochure was dated by comparing the covers between the site this image originated (The University of Iowa) and a newspaper clipping from The King City Times (King City, Missouri) 18 Aug 1911, Fri • Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/clip/20004925/fisher_shipp_concert_company_1911/ Also the photo is shown in 1911 Gibson Magazine at this address: https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?81023-1911-Gibson-Magazine-The-Sounding-Board
When comparing the names on the brochure (Fisher Shipp, Lloyd Loar, Louis G Karnes, Etta Goode Heacocke) a date of September 1908 was arrived at, from this article: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/20446574/fisher_shipp_lloyd_loar_louis_g/ Those names only appeared together in 1908. The brochure cover was printed in the newspaper, allowing it to be dated. Every brochure at the University of Iowa has a different cover. They all contain this photo. |
