To == Vowel 'length' == In the later Middle Ages, all three languages eliminated the distinction between the vowels of the singular and plural preterite forms. This is wrong. Icelandic, Faeroese, Classical Rikssvenska retain the sing. / plural distinction, as much as some conservative German dialects.
