The religious views of Thomas Jefferson diverged widely from the orthodox Christianity of his day. Throughout his life Jefferson was intensely interested in theology, biblical study, and morality.[1] He has been affiliated with Anglican, Episcopal and Unitarian churches, and the religious philosophy of Deism. Opposed to Calvinism, Trinitarianism and Platonic Christianity, his religious commitment is probably best summarized in his own words by his proclamation that he belonged to "a sect by myself".[2]
