The borders of modern France are roughly the same as those of ancient Gaul, which was inhabited by Celtic Gauls. Around 125 BC, the south of Gaul was conquered by the Romans and eventually all of Gaul was divided into Roman provinces.[1] Beginning in the 5th century, the Barbarian Invasions led to the collapse of the Roman Empire.[2]
