Healthcare in Rwanda has transformed from a system marked by poor quality in comparison to its regional neighbors,[1] to one that is considered "remarkable."[2] Like the majority of the world's countries, Rwanda operates a universal health care system that was enacted following the Rwandan genocide in 1994.[3] The public health consequences following the genocide, which included increased rates of HIV/AIDS,[4] have led to widespread government efforts to improve public health.[5]
