If you are here to register a complaint regarding this bot's edits, before doing so please note:
- There is a very clear policy regarding the use of non-free images, which must be followed by all users. Even you. This policy is located at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. You must read this.
- If the bot left a message, read it, along with any links in the message, before complaining here. It explains the problem. Also, check the tag left on the image, if there is one. These, along with policy, explain the issues.
- Do not revert the bot's edits to your userpages or templates, because the bot will just do it again. Do not remove the deletion templates, because they will be restored. Do not assume that you can revert and then evade my notice, because BetacommandBot checks all images periodically, and ImageBacklogBot will catch you again next time it is run.
- Check and make sure the image has a valid source.
- Make sure that the image has a valid non-free use rationale (A guide can be found here)
- I will not add rationales for you. As the uploader it is your responsibility to do so.
- All images must comply with policy.
- A generic template tag is NOT a valid fair use rationale. You must follow the instructions here.
- If you're here to whine and complain that But <image name> is just like my image and it isn't tagged for deletion, I will tag that image too, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
- If you're here to whine and complain that the bot screwed up, please at least include a link. Diffs are even better, but a link to the image is sufficient. I do not really want to go through your contributions just to find that the error was yours, not mine. Do not do this.
- There is a very clear policy regarding having fair use rationales on fair use images. This policy is located at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria point #10(c). Rationales must be provided for each use of an image. Also please see Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline.
- We do not permit fair use, copyrighted images to exist on Wikipedia if rationales for that image's use are not provided. Please see Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#Images.2Fmedia #6. Also please see the Wikimedia Foundation's resolution on this matter at m:Resolution:Licensing policy point #4.
- We do not permit fair use, copyrighted images be used outside of the article namespace. Please see WP:NFCC#9
- For quite some time, we have attempted to encourage people to provide rationales. The results of this effort have been dismal at best. Clearly, greater measures are necessary.
- The use of fair use, copyrighted images on the Wikimedia servers is covered by United States law. Our policies with respect to this bot's actions are based on that law. Please see Fair_use#Purpose_and_character.
- Bug reports are very welcome; tagging images as this bot is doing per policy is not a bug.
- To file a bug report:
- Visit https://jira.ts.wikimedia.org/secure/CreateIssue!default.jspa (you will need to register)
- Select:
- Project: ST47's tools
- Issue Type: Bug, new feature, whatever. If you don't know what this means, choose bug.
- Click next.
- Fill in a short summary, select a priority level, and look to see if the name of the bot is listed in the components section. If it is, select it, otherwise, select unknown.
- Ignore affects version, fix version, environment, assignee.
- Add a detailed description, and
- Hit 'create'.
- Due to an excessive amount of trolling and idiocy on this talk page, in order for me to remain sane while reviewing your bug report, it must be placed on this bug tracker. Any bug placed elsewhere that requires more than a 5 minute fix will be neglected.
- If you'd like to opt out from receipt of warnings ONLY, not from your images being reviewed or tagged, then leave a message here. By requesting to be opted out, you agree to the statements on the subpoints of this line. If you discontinue to agree with them, you must request removal from the opt-out list. This is to ensure that I'm not left receiving messages from a user wondering why their images are being deleted and they aren't being told.
- You do not want to hear from this bot or its owner regarding issues with images you upload.
- You understand the non-free content policy on Wikipedia and agree to abide by it.
- You accept that this bot's operation in tagging your images and the images of others is necessary in order to comply with that policy.
- You do not intend to contact this bot's owner with any issues regarding an image being deleted or other operation of this bot, unless the bot tagged an image that you uploaded that complied with non-free content policy completely, containing a source and either a free license tag, or a non-free image license tag and a non-free image use rationale is used on at least one article and has a link to that article in the rationale.
- Oh, and if you say rational instead of rationale, I am going to hit you over the head with a large fish.
- Questions and complaints regarding your images, rather than this bot, can be directed to the Image Copyright Help Desk where a team of volunteers will endeavor to offer useful advise in a convivial atmosphere.
