English: This KV-1 tank is being loaded for shipment from the Ordnance Museum grounds to Fort Lee, Va., during Phase 1 of the museum relocation. The Kliment Voroshilov tanks were a series of Soviet heavy tanks, named after the Soviet defense commissar and politician Kliment Voroshilov. The Ordnance Museum has been in possession of the tank since 1942, according to Dr. Joseph Rainer, museum director. "The KV-1 arrived from the Soviet Union in a sort of reverse land lease program," Rainer said. "We sent millions of tons of equipment to the Soviet Union to help fight off the German invaders. There were two main routes into Russia; the port of Archangelsk in the north and from the south through Persia [Iran]. Our KV-1 arrived in a shipment from Archangelsk in October 1942."
