Harewood started his career at Nottingham Forest. During his career there, he had loan spells at Haka and Ipswich Town before joining West Ham United in 2003 and then Aston Villa in 2007. In 2009, he spent short periods on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United.
