On April 4, 2024, the Canadiens were eliminated from playoff contention for a third consecutive year following a 7–4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning,[2][3] marking the first such drought for the franchise since 1999–2001 and only the third span collectively in the team's history.[4]
