Birjand[3] (Persian: بیرجند, romanized: Birjand [biːɾˈdʒæːnd] ⓘ), also Romanized as Bīrjand and Birdjand)[4] is a city in the Central District of Birjand County, South Khorasan province, Iran, and serves as capital of both the county and the district.[5] The city is known for its saffron, barberry, jujube, and handmade carpet exports.[6]
