Koei planned to release the PlayStation version in North America in the third quarter of 1998,[1] but this released was cancelled. With no English version of the game on the table, the USA division of Koei sold the Traditional Chinese version of the DOS game in the United States by mail order, without technical or game play support.[2] No further English versions of Romance of the Three Kingdoms games (including spinoffs) were released for PC platforms until Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI in 2008.
